On March 13, our regular chicken processor informed us they are closing their doors. This changes our processing costs. Now we have no choice but to purchase chicken crates and find affordable transportation for our birds. In addition to this, we have to use a different processor and partners to cut chicken at that is more expensive.
In order to cover my new upfront cost, I will require a $400 deposit to secure your chickens being produced in the 2025 growing season. Without deposits I will struggle to continue produce chicken this year. Customers will be credited their chickens in the months of October and November.

If you are looking for really good meat that makes good money sense the grocery store is not the place. Mandy’s meat does not shrink! Unlike the grocery store it is not pumped up with saline. Studies show outdoor chickens have more real protein than industrial raised birds too! You will get much more value and save much more money working with a small farmer and REAL OUT DOOR CHICKEN then purchasing industrial raised meat!
Thank you again for your commitment to small Alberta Farmers and for your support keeping Mandy in the business of raising incredible meat for your families! Nutritional Benefits: Studies have shown that pasture-raised chicken is lower in saturated fat and higher in protein, collagen, and omega-3 fatty acids compared to conventionally raised chicken.FYI: Incase you want to know how it used to work and what is different. My current plan is to raise birds, however, I will not be able to raise birds on speculation. This means I need the consumers who want my birds to provide a deposit and commit to taking the birds that I raise. In the past, Brett from Pigeon Lake would come pick up my birds, process, cut, vacuum pack and then I would pick up. Now I will have to transport my self, take to one place for inspection and processing and another place for cutting up and vacuum pack. This will double my transportation and time. This will be hard, but not impossible. What will make it easier is to know who I am growing for before I grow. I want to keep my prices as they are now, so in order to do that I need to partner with the consumers of my chicken. With out deposits I will not be able to front all the costs. Small farms do not get operating loans as we do not have enough security. I can not sustain the farm on eggs alone, so our chicken production is necessary to keep the farm in operation. In addition to the processing challenge we also have to protect our flocks from the risk of avian flu. Raising birds the right way, is not for the faint of heart. I hope you will choose outdoor raised bird
